Title: Instance-Based Question Answering on Knowledge Graphs

Abstract: Instance-based question answering on knowledge graphs can be understood as concept learning over knowledge graphs: given example entities answering a question, the goal is inducing a symbolic concept (e.g., a class expression in some description logics) that cover these entities. This links question answering with inductive logic programming, yielding interpretable, reusable answers and supporting few-shot settings. We discuss existing concept learners for QA, evaluation and challenges including especially scalability.
Biosketch: Prof. Dr. Axel-Cyrille Ngonga Ngomo is a Full Professor of Data Science at Paderborn University, Germany, where he heads the Data Science research group (DICE) and the Joint Artificial Intelligence Institute Paderborn-Bielefeld (JAII). Since 2024, he also leads the Data Science department at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute. He studied Computer Science and Physics at Leipzig University. Before joining Paderborn University in 2016/2017, he led the Agile Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web (AKSW) group at Leipzig University. His research focuses on knowledge graphs, semantic web technologies, and machine learning, with an emphasis on data-driven methods across the full knowledge graph lifecycle. He has authored more than 500 publications, is cited over 20,000 times, and has received more than 30 research awards (including six best paper awards), a Next Einstein Fellowship and a Lamarr Fellowship.
